In January 2019, the House Speaker formed the Study Group on Economic Stability.

The Study Group is assessing the current impact of poverty on Marylanders, including factors that cause and contribute to poverty, as well as its future impact. State laws, policies, and programs to reduce poverty will be examined by the Study Group, which also will consider all factors in alleviating poverty through employment and economic opportunity, accessible and affordable housing, asset building and financial stability, access to healthcare, food security, and access to transportation. Improving the economic stability of families, who are not eligible for assistance programs and have no safety net, also will be a focus of the Study Group.
