TIPTON AIRPORT

Formerly a U.S. Army airfield, Tipton Airport was designated for privatization by the 1988 federal Base Ralignment and Closure Act. The Airport closed in 1995, and reopened on November 1, 1999. The facility is bordered by Fort Meade, the National Security Agency, and the Patuxent National Wildlife Refuge.

The Airport Manager is appointed by the County Executive. The Chief Financial Officer is appointed by the Anne Arundel County Tipton Airport Authority.

    ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY TIPTON AIRPORT AUTHORITY
    Tipton Airport is operated by the Anne Arundel County Tipton Airport Authority, an instrumentality of Anne Arundel County and a public corporation. The Authority was created to acquire, construct, improve, equip, furnish, maintain, and operate Tipton Airport.

    The Authority consists of nine members appointed to five-year terms by the County Executive. Annually, the County Executive designates the chair (County Code, secs. 3-12-101 through 3-12-219).
