In June 2018, the Task Force to Study State Alcohol Regulation, Enforcement, Safety, and Public Health was initiated (Chapter 25, Acts of 2018).
First, the Task Force is to consider whether the current State agency responsible for regulating the alcoholic beverage industry and enforcing the alcoholic beverages laws is the most appropriate agency for those tasks. Second, the Task Force will review Maryland's current alcohol laws concerning production, distribution, and sales; the impact of alcohol on public health; and how alcohol affects economic development and employment in Maryland. Finally, any additional policies on alcohol to be implemented and how to implement them in the State will be covered in Task Force recommendations.
In February 2019, the Task Force submitted its report to the General Assembly.
Authorization for the Task Force ends June 30, 2019.
