In June 2002, the Task Force to Study Public School Facilities was authorized (Chapter 288, Acts of 2002) and continued in 2003 (Chapter 388, Acts of 2003). The Task Force reviewed, evaluated, and made recommendations on issues related to the State's school construction program.
The Task Force was to determine whether public school facilities can support programs proposed by the Commission on Education Finance, Equity, and Excellence in its final report of February 24, 2004. The Task Force also evaluated the equity of the State's school construction program, and how fairly governments share the costs for school construction projects. In addition, the Task Force considered whether the Aging Schools Program should be continued, and if so, how program funds should be allocated.
In December 2002, the Task Force submitted its interim report to the Governor and General Assembly and, in February 2004, its final report.
