The Commission to Study Campaign Finance Law was authorized in May 2011 (Joint Resolution no. 1, Acts of 2011). The Commission examined those parts of the State election code that relate to campaign financing, and also collected information about similar laws, including federal laws, and similar practices in other jurisdictions. The source of, role, and current limits of campaign contributions was considered by the Commission. Further, issues concerning the feasibility of a voluntary system of public financing were examined, as well as the role of candidate slates. Also, responsibility for enforcing election laws was scrutinized by the Commission.
On December 31, 2012, the Commission submitted its final report to the Governor and General Assembly.
Authorization for the Commission ended June 30, 2013.
