Annual Report to Governor, General Assembly, State Superintendent of Schools, State Board of Education, & Interagency Commission on School Construction due Dec. 1 (Chapter 771, Acts of 2019; Code Education Article, sec. 9.9-105).

In June 2019, the Maryland Office of the Inspector General for Education was authorized by the General Assembly (Chapter 771, Acts of 2019). The Office is headed by the Inspector General, who is appointed unanimously by the Governor, the Attorney General and the State Treasurer with Senate advice and consent.

The Inspector General examines local boards of education; local school systems; public schools; nonpublic schools that receive State funds; the State Department of Education; and the Interagency Commission on School Construction. Further, the Inspector General receives and investigates information and complaints concerning compliance with State and federal law; potential fraud, waste, and abuse of public funds and property; and civil rights violation involving students or employees.
