In September 2007, the House Speaker convened the Work Group to Study Maryland Law regarding Access to Firearms and Sharing of Health Information. The Work Group considered whether under current Maryland law educators, health care providers, and law enforcement officials could share critical information about certain persons with mental health problems, including those who might be a danger to themselves and others. The Work Group also evaluated current law concerned with information that legitimately could be shared while protecting both the public safety and the privacy of the individual.
The Work Group completed its work in December 2007.
