Maryland beaches are found fronting the Atlantic Ocean on the east, and along the Chesapeake Bay in the middle of the State. Beaches also extend along lakes and rivers further inland. While the most renown of Maryland's beaches is in Ocean City, many are found scattered on the Eastern Shore. Ocean City ranked 10th in best U.S. beaches by TripAdvisor in its 2017 Travelers' Choice Awards.
The Maryland Park Service of the Department of Natural Resources maintains 15 park beaches in ten Maryland counties. All State park beaches, and many county and municipal beaches, require entrance fees for access. Most beaches offer extra equipment and facility rentals as well.
